Terms of Service
Effective date: 1 May 2026
Last updated: 1 May 2026
⚠️ Read this part first
Decode helps you understand documents — leases, contracts, medical bills, insurance forms, financial paperwork. It is not a substitute for professional advice.
- Decode’s analysis is informational only. It is not legal, medical, financial, tax, or insurance advice.
- The AI models that power Decode (both on-device and cloud) can make mistakes, miss important clauses, misinterpret context, or generate output that sounds confident but is wrong.
- Before signing, paying, agreeing, or making any decision based on a document, consult a qualified professional — a lawyer for legal documents, a medical billing advocate or your insurer for medical bills, a tax advisor for tax forms, and so on.
- We are not your lawyer, doctor, accountant, broker, or advisor of any kind.
If you use Decode’s output to make decisions without independent professional review, you do so at your own risk.
1. Who these terms are between
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form an agreement between you and Mohan Agoramoorthy, an individual operating the Decode iOS app (“Decode”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
Contact: mrrmfamily2022@gmail.com
By downloading, installing, or using Decode, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. License to use Decode
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Decode on Apple devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and to Apple’s standard Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, decompile, reverse engineer, or attempt to derive the source code of Decode (except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law).
- Rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense, or otherwise transfer Decode to anyone else.
- Use Decode to violate any law or to infringe anyone’s rights.
- Use Decode to process documents you do not have the legal right to read or analyze.
- Probe, scan, or attempt to disrupt the security of Decode’s backend services (Cloudflare Worker, Supabase entitlements, Apple webhook).
- Use Decode in a way that would impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure or attempt to circumvent the per-user spending caps.
3. Subscriptions and billing
3.1 Tiers
Decode offers a free tier and the following paid subscription tiers:
- Private — small monthly allowance of cloud-assisted analyses
- Pro — larger monthly allowance, longer documents
- Power — highest monthly allowance, priority routing
Specific allowances, prices, and features for each tier are shown in the app’s paywall and may change for new subscribers from time to time. Existing subscribers’ rates do not change mid-billing-cycle.
3.2 Billing is handled by Apple
All purchases are processed through your Apple ID. Decode does not receive your payment details. Charges, renewals, and refunds are governed by Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions.
3.3 Auto-renewal
Paid subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
3.4 How to cancel
You can cancel at any time:
iPhone: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Decode → Cancel Subscription.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep paid features until then.
3.5 Refunds
Refund requests go to Apple. Decode does not have the ability to refund your purchase directly. You can request a refund here:
https://reportaproblem.apple.com
If Apple grants a refund, we’ll downgrade your account to the free tier when Apple notifies us via the App Store Server Notifications webhook.
3.6 Free tier and trials
The free tier remains available without payment. We may from time to time offer a free trial for paid tiers; trial terms (length, eligibility) are shown at the point of purchase. Unless cancelled before the trial ends, the trial converts to a paid subscription automatically.
4. The big disclaimer (please read)
Decode produces summaries, risk assessments, suggested questions, and other commentary about documents you upload. All of this output is informational only.
Specifically:
- Decode is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. No attorney-client relationship is created.
- Decode is not a medical provider and does not provide medical or medical-billing advice. No physician-patient relationship is created.
- Decode is not a tax advisor, accountant, broker, financial planner, or licensed insurance agent.
- Decode is not authorized to act on your behalf in any legal, medical, financial, or insurance matter.
The AI models that power Decode — including Apple Foundation Models on-device and Anthropic Claude in the cloud — are statistical systems that can and do make mistakes, including:
- Missing clauses, dates, fees, or obligations buried in dense text
- Misinterpreting ambiguous language
- “Hallucinating” content that is not in the document
- Misidentifying document types
- Producing risk scores that don’t reflect the document’s actual risk
You agree to use Decode’s output as a starting point for further investigation — never as the final word. Before signing a contract, paying a bill, accepting an insurance settlement, or taking any consequential action, consult a qualified professional who can review the original document.
5. Your documents
5.1 You keep your IP
Documents you analyze in Decode remain your property (or the property of whoever owns them — see 5.2). We do not claim any ownership over your documents or the analyses they produce.
5.2 You confirm you have the right to use them
By analyzing a document in Decode, you represent that you have the legal right to do so — for example, the document is yours, was sent to you, or you are authorized to review it. You are responsible for ensuring you have not breached confidentiality, contractual, or legal obligations by uploading any document.
5.3 What we do with documents
Documents you analyze are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. In short:
- On-device analysis stays on your device.
- Cloud analysis only happens on paid tiers, only with your in-app consent, and only after five layers of on-device redaction strip personal information from the text.
- We do not sell or share document content with anyone other than the sub-processors listed in the privacy policy.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Decode to:
- Process documents containing classified or export-controlled information
- Process documents you do not have rights to (other people’s medical records, leaked corporate documents, etc.)
- Generate content for the purpose of fraud, harassment, or any unlawful activity
- Attempt to use Decode as a general-purpose AI assistant for tasks unrelated to document analysis (the app’s prompts and on-device safety filters are not designed for that)
We may revoke your access if we have reasonable grounds to believe you have violated this section.
7. Intellectual property in the app itself
Decode, the Decode name, the Decode brand, the Decode app icon, and the underlying code, design, and content are owned by Mohan Agoramoorthy and protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of these assets to you.
You may write about Decode, screenshot it for personal or editorial use, and share its output (the analyses you generate) freely.
8. Third-party services
Decode relies on the following third-party services to operate:
- Apple — distribution, in-app purchases, on-device AI (Foundation Models, NLTagger, NSDataDetector)
- Supabase — anonymous authentication and entitlement storage
- Cloudflare — API gateway
- Anthropic — cloud document analysis (paid tiers, with consent)
Your use of Decode is also subject to the terms and privacy policies of these providers where their services are involved. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of these third parties.
9. Service availability
We work to keep Decode and its backend services available, but we do not guarantee uptime. Decode’s cloud features depend on third-party infrastructure (Apple, Supabase, Cloudflare, Anthropic) that we do not control.
We may, at any time and without notice:
- Modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of Decode
- Adjust per-tier monthly caps and platform-wide spending limits to keep the service economically viable
- Take the cloud features offline temporarily for maintenance, security, or cost reasons
If we permanently discontinue Decode, we will give existing subscribers reasonable notice through the App Store description or the in-app interface.
10. Disclaimers — “as is”
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Decode is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, without any warranties of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.
Without limiting the foregoing:
- We do not warrant that Decode will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
- We do not warrant that Decode’s analyses will be accurate, complete, current, or suitable for any particular purpose.
- We do not warrant that any defects will be corrected.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of Decode — including loss of profits, loss of data, business interruption, or harm resulting from a decision you made based on Decode’s output.
- Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising from your use of Decode in any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid for Decode subscriptions during that twelve-month period, or (b) USD 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of certain damages — in those jurisdictions, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mohan Agoramoorthy from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of Decode in violation of these Terms,
- Your processing of any document you did not have the right to process,
- Your reliance on Decode’s output without independent professional review where one was warranted, or
- Any breach by you of any law or any third party’s rights.
13. Termination
These Terms remain in effect while you use Decode. We may terminate or suspend your access if you breach these Terms. You may terminate by deleting the app and cancelling any active subscription through Apple.
Provisions intended to survive termination — including Sections 4 (Disclaimer), 5.2 (User Representations), 7 (IP), 10 (Disclaimers), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (Indemnification), and 14 (Governing Law) — survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Decode will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mumbai, India.
This does not deprive you of the protections of any non-waivable law of your country of residence.
15. Apple-specific terms
The following terms are required by Apple and apply to the use of Decode obtained through the Apple App Store:
- Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Decode or its content.
- Scope of license. The license to use Decode is limited to a non-transferable license to use Decode on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that Decode may also be accessed by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing.
- Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for any maintenance and support for Decode, as required by applicable law. Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support.
- Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied. In the event Decode fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, who will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Decode.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to Decode or your use of it, including (i) product liability claims; (ii) claims that Decode fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
- Intellectual property rights. In the event of any third-party claim that Decode or your use of Decode infringes that third party’s intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Developer name and address. Mohan Agoramoorthy. Contact: mrrmfamily2022@gmail.com.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Decode (Apple’s, Supabase’s, Cloudflare’s, and Anthropic’s).
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any change. Material changes will be highlighted in the app the next time you open it after the change takes effect. Continued use of Decode after the effective date of changes means you accept the updated Terms.
17. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy) are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Decode and supersede any prior agreements.
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction (for example, in connection with a sale or transfer of Decode).
For any question about these Terms, email us at mrrmfamily2022@gmail.com with the subject line “Decode — Terms”.
